Appellate Attorney

I have been practicing law for 33 years and have handled appeals cases since 1979, both in state and federal courts. I have experience in civil appeals over a very broad range of issues, including personal injury and other torts, products liability, governmental tort liability, insurance coverage (including bad faith issues), consumer law, collections, construction defect law, administrative law, numerous issues of civil procedure, and many others. I have always practiced with the highest standards of integrity. I accept cases through referral from other counsel. Additionally, in select cases I work directly with litigants. A significant portion of my work has been as a contract lawyer working on projects for other attorneys who lack the time to devote to the intensive research and preparation that a state or federal appeals case requires. Experience: I have handled approximately 80 appellate court cases, with more than 15 leading to published opinions (see Representative Cases). I have also handled a number of high profile cases, including cases arising out of the infamous LAPD Rampart scandal. I have written briefs to and appeared before the California Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. I worked for 18 years for a major Los Angeles insurance defense firm, where I was chief appellate attorney. Quality: Thorough research and preparation, precise wording, attention to detail and innovative thinking lead to results on appeal. I pride myself on producing a very high quality work product for my client that yields positive results. I am a former “lecturer in law” at the UCLA School of Law, where I taught legal research and writing. I am a member of the Order of the Coif (top 10% of graduating class), UCLA School of Law. Samples of my work product are available upon request. Reasonable Rates: My rates are quite reasonable. I only bill for actual time worked, and carefully record and document all hours worked.
